Hawaiian Airlines will suspend three underperforming routes in November—including two transpacific services—while boosting capacity on high-demand domestic and international markets.
The carrier will end its routes between Honolulu and Seoul Incheon, South Korea, and Fukuoka, Japan, alongside service to Boston. Hawaiian will redeploy aircraft to strengthen flights between Honolulu and Sydney, Los Angeles, Seattle and Papeete, French Polynesia.
“It’s always a difficult decision to suspend a route, especially in cities like Seoul, which we have enjoyed serving for over 14 years,” Hawaiian CEO Joe Sprague says. “However, despite our team’s best efforts, soft post-pandemic travel demand from Asia combined with various market challenges have persisted in Seoul, as well as in Fukuoka and Boston, both of which we entered in 2019.”
Hawaiian currently operates five flights per week to Seoul, four to Boston, and three to Fukuoka. All three routes slated for cancellation are operated with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, OAG Schedules Analyzer data shows.
“We remain committed to continuing to provide robust Hawaiian Airlines service between Asia and Hawaii through our nonstop Japan flights, and via one-stop connections to and from Incheon and beyond with our global partner airlines,” Sprague adds.
The route cancellations will leave the Honolulu-Boston and Honolulu-Fukuoka markets unserved by nonstop flights. However, Asiana Airlines and Korean Air each serve Honolulu-Seoul daily, while Air Premia offers four flights per week between the destinations.
Hawaiian will continue to serve the Japanese market through nonstop service from Honolulu to Osaka Kansai and Tokyo Haneda, as well as a Seattle-Tokyo Haneda route it operates for parent Alaska Air Group.
To redeploy capacity, Hawaiian plans to increase Honolulu-Sydney to daily flights from five weekly, from Dec. 18 through Jan. 31, 2026; add a second weekly Honolulu-Papeete service starting in March 2026; launch a fifth daily Honolulu-Los Angeles flight during peak periods, starting from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1; and introduce a fourth daily Honolulu-Seattle flight from late November through mid-April 2026.
Hawaiian will operate its last flights from Fukuoka and Boston to Honolulu on Nov. 19, and from Seoul Incheon to Honolulu on Nov. 21.
