The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka (Cherry Blossom), powered by three rocket motors, was the fastest Japanese aircraft of World War II.

When the Japanese started running out of Kamikaze aircraft used in actions against U.S. ships off the coast of Okinawa, they designed the Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka.  The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka was inexpensive and easy to mass produce for the one specific function.

The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka was slung under the belly of  a G4M Betty aircraft. When the host aircraft was within range, the Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka was released. The pilot would ignite the rocket motors and go into a steep dive.

Most Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka aircraft failed to reach their destination because the host aircraft that carried the Ohka was relatively slow and vulnerable to interception.

Records with regard to the Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka in combat are spotty and unclear.  It appears that around 750 Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka aircraft were produced. It is uncertain how many Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka aircraft were actually launched on missions.  Perhaps six Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka aircraft scored hits on U.S. warships off the coast of Okinawa.   Three of the ships sustained heavy damage.

Radio Control Airplane

RC Airplane from Model Activity Press plans.

Radio Control Airplanes:

Pictured above and below is the MXY-7 Ohka RC Airplane from plans found at Model Activity Press. The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka radio control airplane is described as made for towing to launch altitude. Controls for the RC Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka airplane are ailerons, elevators, motor firing, and release. We were unable to find any dimensions for the radio control airplane. The type of engine needed to power the RC Airplane also is not shown. We would appreciate it if you can provide any further information on this radio control airplane model.

We found plans under "gas powered radio control aircraft" for a RC Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka airplane on eBay. The only information posted is that the radio control airplane has a wing span on 38". There are two pictures of the actual Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka aircraft, and not RC Airplanes, with the ad. The seller of the radio control airplane is shown as "Uncle-Willies." However, we can not find a MXY-7 RC Airplane shown at the Uncle Willies Plans website.

Although the Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka is an interesting RC Airplane, we do not know of any modeled except for what is pictured above. If you have built a MXY-7 radio control airplane, or know of plans, kits or a ARF of the MXY-7 RC Airplane, please email us about it.
