Yak-9 aircraft are considered by many to be the best Soviet fighter of World War II. t

Yak-9 aircraft first flew in October of 1942.  The Yak-9 was the first Soviet production fighter capable of besting German fighter aircraft.

Yak-9 construction involved the use of lighter and stronger materials as the war progressed. Eventually the Yak-9 aircraft used mostly aluminum materials for light weight. Engines also increased in power and reliability.

Various models of the Yak-9 included the standard version 9M, a longer range 9D and an extra long range bomber escort designated the 9DD.  The ultimate version was the Yak-9 model U, made entirely of metal.  It was deployed in July of 1944.

Yak-9 model U aircraft originally used  VK109PF-2 engines that gave it a top speed of about 410 mph. When the engine was upgraded to the VK-107-A in November of 1944, top speed  of the Yak-9 increased to 435 mph.

Yak-9 aircraft were produced through March of 1946.  Yak-9 aircraft were used by North Korea at the start of the Korean War.  A total of 16,769 Yak-9 aircraft were produced.

Radio Control Airplanes:

Pictured above is the RC Yak-9 airplane from Red Star RC.  The radio control airplane is 1/7 scale. Wing span of the rc airplane is 55". The fuselage of the radio control airplane measures 50". Materials used in the construction of the RC Yak-9 airplane are balsa and ply.  To power the radio control airplane two stroke engines from .40 to .46 are recommended.  The rc airplane should weigh from 5 to 5 1/2 lbs. upon completion.

The first picture below is of the Yak-9 radio control airplane from Warbird Kits.  The rc Yak-9 airplane has a wing span of 31".  Length of the radio control airplane is 26".  A Speed 400 or Mega 16/15 motor is recommended as power for the RC Airplane.

HET RC has a Yak-9 radio control airplane.  The RC Airplane is sold as an ARF.  Wing span of the radio control airplane is 27.5".  Recommended power for the RC Airplane can be a Typhoon 6/15 or 6/20 motor.

The second picture below is of the radio control airplane from FVK.  The rc Yak-9 airplane has a wing span of 31.5".  Recommended power for the radio control airplane is a Speed 480 size or Mega 16/15/3 motor.  We understand that the RC Yak-9 Airplanes were never released for sale.

The final picture on this page is of the nice looking Yak-9 radio control airplane scratch built by Mtflyr of RC Groups.  The  rc airplane is constructed from Depron foam. A 22T CD ROM motor powers the radio control airplane.

Do you have a favorite RC Yak-9 airplane? Would you like to recommend any other Yak-9 radio control airplane ARF, plan or kit?  If so, kindly email us about it.
