Piaggio P180 Avanti aircraft have a top speed higher than any FAR 23 certified turboprop aircraft being built today.
Piaggio P180 Avanti aircraft have a unique design enabling them to transport a total of nine people at ranges of up to 1,800 miles at jet like speeds.
Piaggio P180 Avanti aircraft produce a distinctively un-turboprop loud sound while passing overhead. However, the interior of the aircraft is whisper quite due to its turboprops being located behind the passenger cabin.
And all of this comfort comes with turboprop economy and efficiency. The Piaggio P180 Avanti is said to have 30 percent better fuel efficiency than a similar size turbojet aircraft.
A special laminar flow wing of the Piaggio P180 Avanti enables more engine power to go directly into pushing the aircraft forward through the air, rather than fighting drag producing friction.
The Piaggio P180 Avanti fuselage produces lift in conjunction with the main wing, front canards, and horizontal stabilizer located on top of a T-tail. The canards are not movable and therefore do not contribute to the control of the aircraft. The combination of the lifting surfaces makes for an aerodynamically efficient aircraft.
Piero Ferrari helped bring the Piaggio P180 Avanti project to fruition after Avanti Aviation ran short of money. In October of 2005, the 100th Piaggio P180 Avanti rolled off of the factory assembly line.
China has purchased three Piaggio P180 Avanti aircraft with anticipated delivery by early to mid 2008. The aircraft will be used for search and rescue in addition to pilot training.
Pictured above is the Simprop RC Piaggio P180 Avanti airplane built by Kevin Morris. The radio control airplane has a 55" wing span and is powered by two brushless motors. Kevin installed retractable landing gear in his RC Airplane. Kevin wrote us: "Wanted to let you know that the original aircraft paint scheme came from a Canadian Piaggio P180 Avanti that I
photographed at Oakland airport. My Piaggio Avanti, which is still flying, has a navigation light/ strobe system installed to add a bit more
in the scale appearance."
In the first picture below is another Simprop Piaggio P180 Avanti radio control airplane. This rc airplane was built by Don Sims. Don powers his RC Piaggio P180 Avanti airplane with 2 x Mega 400 brushless motors.
The second picture below is of a Piaggio P 180 Avanti radio control airplane built by John Stockinger. The RC airplane is powered by two OS .61FX engines. Wingspan of the radio control airplane measures 95.5 inches. All up weight of the RC Airplane is about 17 lbs.
