The Messerschmitt Bf110 was originally deployed as a heavy long range escort fighter during the early part of World War II. As Allied fighters improved, it was no longer effect in its mission.  It then assumed the role of a fighter/bomber and was successful against enemy troops and armor when used in support of ground operations. Eventually the aircraft was used as a night fighter.

Although it had an excellent dive speed, the twin engine fighter was not as maneuverable as many single engine aircraft. It was employed as a bomber escort where it used its heavy fire power and long range as an asset. However, it soon became apparent that the Bf-110 was no match for modern Allied fighter aircraft.

The size of the aircraft made it capable of accepting the heavy radar of the time for use as a night fighter, where it met with success.

One night fighter version was equipped with 20 mm cannons which fired upward. That enabled the aircraft to intercept enemy aircraft and attack them from below, while in level flight.

Major Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer, a Bf 110 pilot, claimed 121 night victories in the aircraft.

A common tactic of the fighter, when used as a day interceptor, was to dive on opposing aircraft trying to score hits with heavy cannons, then breaking off pursuit to avoid retaliatory strikes. However, it did not fare well when Allied bombers were escorted by fighter aircraft.

A total of approximately 6,100 Messerschmitt Bf-110 aircraft of all types were built from 1936 through the end of the war.

Kondor Model Products (KMP) has a giant scale rc Messerschmitt Bf-110 for sale. Its wingspan is 95" and weight is around 17 lbs. It will accept .91 four stroke engines or motors of similar power. The fuselage is fiberglass and the wings and tail are built up balsa. The complete model is painted with the decals pre-applied. After decal application there is another flat top coat over the entire model to protect the finish and fuel proof. There are no optional glass wings, however the wings could be glassed as a few people have done. The paint finish is so nice that doing so would really be hard to replicate again. From two feet away one could not tell the difference between the finishes, its so nice out of the box. The KMP rc Bf 110 has been featured on the front cover of Fly RC magazine and there was a complete review done on the aircraft in the same issue. It was electrified with great overall flying characteristics. Both slow and high speed performance was exceptional. The retract system is complete with the air lines, fittings quick disconnects etc. Also featured and included are real rubber tires with aluminum two pieces hubs and same tail wheel. Oleo struts and beautifully finished and operating Air/Air pneumatic gear system is included as well.

Wowplanes has a 65" wingspan Messerschmitt Bf 110 rc airplane for sale. It is a foamy that is 47" long and weighs around 5 3/4 lbs. It will accept engine or motor power.
