Regarded as Italy's best World War II fighter plane, the Macchi MC.205 Veltro was an upgraded model rather than an entirely new aircraft. The most visible difference between models was a new, larger tail section. The Veltro continued to use the Italian built version of the Daimler Benz 605 engine, but it was upgraded to produce an additional 300 h.p. Minor changes were also made to the aircraft to improve streamlining and lessen drag.
The Macchi MC.205 Veltro proved itself equal or superior to most Allied fighters of the time. It dominated early World War II fighter aircraft and could hold its own against the most of the newest models.
Unfortunately for the Italians, the Macchi MC.205 Veltro entered the war too late and in too small numbers to make a difference in the war effort.
A total of 262 Macchi MC.205 Veltro aircraft of all types were manufactured.

Airplanes:
Pictured above is the rc Macchi MC.205 Veltro built by Robert Stinson. Robert converted a VQ Warbirds rc airplane from engine to electric power. Robert uses a Dualsky 4250 CA-5 motor to power his RC MC.205.
The VQ Warbirds RC Macchi MC.205 Veltro has a wing span of 62" and a length of 46.5". Construction materials used in the ARF radio control airplane are mostly balsa and lite plywood. VQ Warbirds recommends powering their RC Airplane with .40 to .46 two cycle or .70 four cycle engines. The MC.205 rc airplane weighs around 6 lbs.
RC Airplane pilots report that their VQ Warbirds rc Macchi MC.205 Veltro radio control airplane is fun and easy to fly with no bad habits. Flight of the RC Airplane is straight and true. The radio control airplane is very stable, even in cross winds. When landing, the RC Macchi MC.205 Veltro will glide a long way with the motor off. You can slow the radio control airplane down to land without it dropping a wing.
