The Hawker Hurricane was essentially a Hawker Fury monoplane. In fact, that is how they were first known. The first models were even produced with fabric covered wings. However, it wasn't long after their introduction that metal wings became standard.

In December of 1937 the first Hawker Hurricane aircraft were deployed with combat squadrons. They were the first British aircraft capable of 300 mph + speeds. Hawker Hurricanes proved so successful that the RAF requested more production than the Hawker factory could handle. Eventually Gloster Aircraft began producing aircraft to help make up the shortfall .

There were more Hawker Hurricane aircraft than other fighters when World War II broke out. They were particularly effective against German bombers.

The Hawker Hurricane aircraft Mk II model which was deployed in September of 1940 featured a two stage engine supercharger, enabling better high altitude performance.

Hawker Hurricanes were armed with up to twelve .303 machine guns.  The Mk 11C, introduced in April of 1941, had four 20 mm cannons.  The Mk 11D was armed with two 40 mm anti-tank cannons.

Other versions of the Hawker Hurricane were produced as night fighters and for the Royal Navy. Naval aircraft had fittings for catapult launches as well as tail hooks.

The Hawker Hurricane was a pilot favorite. They reported that it could take a great deal of punishment, and was a steadier gun platform with better over the nose visibility than many other fighter aircraft.

Royal Air Force Hawker Hurricanes aircraft flew until January 1947.  A total of 14,231 Hawker Hurricane aircraft of all types were produced.

Radio Control Airplane

A rc Hawker Hurricane from VQ Models.

Radio Control Airplanes:

VQ Models has two RC Hawker Hurricane airplanes.  Pictured above is their 58 1/2" wing span 45" length radio control airplane.  The rc airplane can be propelled with .40 to .46 two cycle or .70 four cycle engines.  All up weight of the radio control airplane is about 6 1/2 lbs.

Pictured below is the 63" wing span rc Hawker Hurricane from VQ Models.  The radio control airplane has a length of 50".  You can power the Hawker Hunter rc with a .61 two cycle or .91 four cycle engine.  All up weight of the 63" wing span radio control airplane should be around 10 1/2 lbs.

American Eagle has a 1/5 scale Hawker Hurricane RC.  The radio control airplane has a wing span of 92" and a length of 64". Construction of the RC Hawker Hunter is epoxy glass for the fuselage and foam wings.  To power the radio control airplane you can use 35 to 62 cc gas engines. The RC Airplane should weigh between 15 and 25 lbs..

KMP has a 72" wing span rc Hawker Hurricane radio control airplane.  The RC Airplane model is of all fiberglass construction.  Recommended power for the RC Hawker Hunter is a 1.20 two cycle engine.  All up weight of the RC Airplane will be around 12 lbs.

The second picture below is of the RC Hawker Hurricane radio control airplane from ESM.  The RC Airplane has a wing span of 71" and a length of 55 l/2". Construction materials used in the radio control airplane are a fiberglass fuselage and built up wings.  Power for the Hawker Huner rc airplane can come from .60 to .90 engines.  The radio control airplane should weigh approximately 10 1/2 lbs.

Kit Cutters has three Hawker Hurricane RC Airplanes as plans, short or full kits.  They will sell you a radio control airplane from Nexus plans that has a 68" wing span.

Next from Kit Cutters is a 1:5 scale rc Hawker Hurricane from Jim Pepino Plans. The radio control airplane has a 90" wing span and a 72" length.  Recommended power for the RC Airplane is a ST 2500 engine.

The final picture on this page is of a rc Hawker Hurricane radio control airplane built from Roy Vaillancourt plans obtained from Kit Cutters.  The great looking RC Airplane was built by Norm Gates.  Wing span of the radio control airplane is 92" and length is 74".  You can power the Hawker Hurricane RC with a Quatra Q42, Q50, or Sachs 3.2 or 4.2 engine.  The radio control airplane should weigh between 22 and 26 lbs.

Do you have a favorite Hawker Hurricane rc that you built and fly?  Are there any plans, kits, or ARF rc Hawker Hurricane radio control airplanes you would like to recommend?  If so, we would appreciate hearing from you.
