The Grumman EA-6B Prowler has been the mainstay electronics warfare aircraft of the U. S. Navy since 1971. It was developed from the A-6 Intruder.
The U.S. Navy uses the aircraft as its tactical jamming airborne platform. It is launched from aircraft carriers to perform missions against multi-wave airborne radars and transmissions.
The Prowler was adopted for use by the U.S. Army, Air Force, and Marines in 1994. It is used for all electronic countermeasure missions by the U.S.A.F.
Newer generations of the aircraft, which have received four upgrades since their first deployment, are capable of electronic surveillance.
The Grumman EA-6B Prowler has seen action over Vietnam, during Operation Desert Storm, Bosnia, Yugoslavia, and most recently during the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
