NOTE: RADIO CONTROL AIRPLANES ARE ON THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE PAGE.

The DC-10 Supertanker can drop 12,000 gallons of water in eight seconds.

It delivers water from a series of external tanks mounted along its centerline. The water delivery system uses computerized gravity feed.

The California Dept. of Forestry and Protection was so impressed with the results of the DC-10 Supertanker tests that they commenced utilization of its services in 2006.

The McDonnell Douglas DC-10, from which the Supertanker is derived, first flew on Aug. 29, 1970 and started regularly carrying passengers for American Airlines in August of 1971.

After some initial maintenance issues, the aircraft has proven itself extremely reliable, and is well liked by its pilots and crews.

Although the last one rolled off of the assembly line in December of 1988, many continue to fly through today. A total of 446 were produced of which 59 are in service with the U.S.A.F.

The role of the U.S.A.F. DC-10 aircraft are in-air refueling. They have the capability of transferring fuel at rates of up to 1,500 gallons a minute.

Radio Control Airplane

RC Airplane built by Peter Michel.

Radio Control Airplanes:

----------------------------------------------------

Pictured above and in the first two pictures below is yet another giant scale RC Airplane built by master craftsman Peter Michel.

The rc McDonnell Douglas DC-10 scale model radio control airplane has a wingspan of 124". Length of the RC Airplane is 136". Weight of the radio control airplane is about 44 lbs. Michel powers his RC Airplane with a single 29 lb. thrust turbine in the tail.

The bottom picture of the nice looking RC McDonnell Douglas DC-10 radio control airplane by EDF Model. Wingspan of the rc Airplane is 78" and length is 70". Recommended power for the radio control airplane is by a pair of Typhoon 600-33 brushless motors driving WeMoTec Midi Fans.  An engine in the tail is not recommended for the RC Airplane. All up weight is around 9 lbs..
